Modern Groove Syndicate will be performing at Bogart’s on Lombardy St. in Richmond for the last two Mondays of March. I’ll be featured on projector both nights, and the band may continue this weekly residency into April. More details to be announced.

The Future Squad keeps pulling it together every Wednesday night at Emilio’s at Meadow and Broad St. in Richmond. I’ve been walking several fences with the band, working alternately on the projector and drawing tablet and keyboards. Last week saw the first attempted use of both a lighting rig and mixer and drawing tablet simultaneously. A bit much to concentrate on but it could certainly work.

Big week this week.
Wednesday- Southside at Emilio’s
Thursday- Existor at Emilio’s
Friday- Brothers Past and Existor at Alley Katz
Saturday- Modern Groove Syndicate at Ashland Coffee and Tea
Friday should be a pretty hip thing. My first Alley Katz show on projections, and Brothers Past has really taken off in the last year. Their rock/jam/electronic thing has struck a chord with the faithfuls and they’re really going places with it.

The Modern Groove dates have been great lately. A month of Mondays at Bogart’s and a slew of other dates has put the band in fine form. Sunday saw a three piece Modern Groove (sans sax) and myself opening for the Headhunters in Virginia Beach. Check them out the last three Mondays in February at Bogart’s, the room has a great vibe and the projections accent the band well in that space.

Monday, February 6 Devil’s Workshop is slated for a one-off reunion show. Based around a dozen or more jazz players and led by Daniel Clark and Robbie Sinclair, the Workshop held Mondays together at Bogart’s for over two years. The band’s rich horn section accents great original tunes, standards and dark covers from bands such as Nirvana and Radiohead.

Come out to Bogart’s in Richmond and check out Modern Groove Syndicate. Show starts around 10, I’ll be projecting drawings while the band plays. Cheap food and drinks all night.

I’ve just finished a new edition of prints, 22 images representing my recent painting and projection efforts. The prints are 8”x10” or 8”x12” printed on photo paper, very durable and vibrant.
They are available at my shows and online, and are $15 each. Larger prints or a full set of prints are available. Email artlabgoon@hotmail.com for details or ordering information.
Wednesday, I’ll be supporting the Southside Future Squad at Emilio’s.
Their upbeat jazz, funk and dance tunes will help get you through hump day.
Friday, the Alan Parker Group, an amalgamation of the Rex/Saxsmo Quintet, will be appearing at Fusion, with Tim Turner, an excellent tenor sax player scheduled to appear with the band. I’ll be there too.
Modern Groove Syndicate is playing a show at Cary St. Cafe this Saturday, however I am not scheduled to accompany them on visuals due to the size restrictions of the venue.

Thursday, October 27, Have a Nice Day Cafe in Richmond will be hosting a concert to benefit hurricane victims featuring Modern Groove Syndicate, DJ Williams Projekt, Oregon Hill Funk All Stars, Rising Sons, Under8d and Special Ed. I’ll be sitting in on projector with Modern Groove.
The club is at 18th St. and Main in Shockoe Bottom. Fun starts at 7 and goes till 2.
