LarJar and the Congress Last Gasp of 2009 Party! 12/30/09

This Wednesday, 12/30/09 LarJar will be performing with the Congress at Cary Street Cafe for their final show of the year!  This show caps off over two solid years of LarJar Wednesdays and we are still going strong!  The Congress is fresh in from Colorado and ready to shed their unique blend of Americana rock and jam-funk for everybody, and we’re hoping for a little cross-colaboration goodness!  3294_78559113319_53891138319_1706620_7128837_n

Tiny Boxes featuring members of Umphrey’s McGee and Gongzilla to perform with LarJar!

527396802_sjagq-mTiny Boxes, a new funk-jam project formed by guitarist Bon Lozaga of Gongzilla and featuring Umphrey’s McGee keyboardist Joel Cummins will be performing at a special free holiday show at Cary Street Cafe in Richmond, Va. The performance has been arranged for December 23, 2009 at 10:00pm at Cary Street Cafe and will include two sets each from Tiny Boxes and regular Wednesday night act LarJar.

Lozaga has been hard at work on his new project, Tiny Boxes, whose first recording efforts include members of Umphrey’s McGee and Derek Trucks Band. This marks their first foray into the community, with the band traveling from North Carolina and Cummins as a special guest in from Chicago. Their new sound is a funky mash-up that harkens to previous projects including Gongzilla, Lozaga’s solo work and the progressive sound of early Umphrey’s McGee.

LarJar is a keys-bass-drums trio that’s been performing a weekly Wednesday workout at Cary Street Cafe for over two years. They’ve hosted two LarJarFests, an independent jam-funk music festival outside Richmond, VA with a third in the works for this spring.  LarJar features twin brothers Jason and Larry Alen Jarrell on bass and drums respectively and Dave Klemencic on organ, clavinet, synths and electric piano.

Cary Street Cafe has long been the home to Richmond’s jam/funk/rock community, hosting an eclectic variety of live music for the past 14 years.  Their weekly routine includes free shows by the Former Champions every Tuesday, LarJar every Wednesday and a rotation of regional touring acts on Fridays and Saturdays.

LarJar featured in Magazine33

Check out the premier issue of Magazine33 for the Ripple Effect article on the LarJar Band.  Meredith Ripple was kind enough to sit down with the fellas for a lengthy interview regarding the band’s roots and influences, our long running weekly gig, best and worst moments and plans for the future.  The article includes the track “Ridin’ the Rails” for your listening pleasure.

Magazine33 is a great new art/culture/music magazine that’s kicking off with some great talent behind it.  Check it out online for a glance into what Richmonders are getting down with these days.  Cheers!

Now accepting commissions!

Been working on a handful of new paintings, both personal work and commissions for others.  Stay tuned to the gallery for new examples as we’ll be updating regularly over the next several weeks.

If you’re interested in having a new painting of your choosing, I’m currently accepting commissions on a variety of subjects.  At the moment, I’m primarily focused on action-portraiture (people working in their environment) and landscapes, but I’m open to whatever you’re looking for.  Take a look at some of my work in the painting gallery and see for yourself.  If you have questions, feel free to email dave@daveklemencic.com for further details, quotes and to set up an appointment to look at some samples firsthand.

EQ Produktions Article in RVA Mag

RVA Magazine, Richmond’s premier underground culture and music mag has posted a great write-up on EQ Produktions, a local music promoting business founded by Jesse Pruitt and Mike Holderfield, friends that have worked closely with the local music scene over the last few years. They’ve broken out over the last year or so, expanding their reach and presence in the area, all the while bringing attention to an excellent and diverse group of musicians. Last winter (December and March) I added my live drawing projections to several of their shows (Existor and Pretty Lights, Orchard Lounge) and received a mention in the article as well as several shots of my work at their shows.
Take a look!
